FAHRENHEIT VS CELSIUS

Checking temperatures around the school we started wondering about the F written on the thermometers. What is that F? We discovered that it was the symbol used to refer to Fahrenheit: what a strange name!

It was funny, but we also recognised the word in “Don’t stop me now”, the song we use to start with energy in the mornings. Bearing this in mind, we decided to listen more carefully to the song to see what Fahrenheit was about. At first, we thought the song was very difficult but we realized that we could recognise a lot of English words in the song. With the words we recognised as clues we were able to match each paragraph to the correct translation in Catalan and now we can understand and sing the song.

The song, though, didn’t answer our questions about Fahrenheit and we continued to investigate. We discovered that it was a scale to measure temperature that is only used in USA and 5 other countries. It was very shocking because it uses higher numbers: the normal body temperature in Fahrenheit is 98º! If you hear somebody complaining that it is very cold because its 50º don’t be surprised… They are using Fahnrenheit!
