As you know, we are trying to find an Irish school that wishes to start a pen-pal project with us so we can learn about their customs while practicing English. We realized that we needed the head teacher permission and we had to adapt the language in our letters. After learning the conventions of a formal letter, we organized in groups and started to write our letters following the instructions given.
It was quite tricky as we had to have not only the grammar and spelling, but also the tone into account. All in all, it was a very interesting and meaningful activity that offered a precious opportunity to put all the language we have learned so far into practice.
Now, with our texts ready, it was the moment to analyse them to write together the final version. We reflected on the characteristics of formal letters and, following a checklist, we assessed each of the texts we wrote.
We read attentively all the texts and we were able to select the most accurate sentences to express our ideas. Assessing texts in such a way not only enables us enrich our vocabulary , but promotes an awareness of language traits that are benefitial not only for the learning of English but also of Catalan and Spanish.
