“Needle in a haystack’s easy—- just bring a magnet”

After reading a text about Shinkansen we were astonished to discover that the train is very fast because it levitates using magnetism. How can this be possible? Can a train levitate?


After this discovery we started to share all our previous knowledge about magnetism and, although we were familiar with magnets we really did not know much about them and how much we use them in our daily life.
Test yourself and try to answer (in Spanish, Catalan or your own language) the same questions we answered:
- What is a magnet?
- Why do some objects stick to the magnet and others not?
- What do we use magnets for?

After discussing the video and comparing it with our previous answers it was time to put all this knowledge into practice and try to solve different questions to finally understand how it is possible to make a train levitate.
-How can we know the poles on a magnet without colours?
-How can we take a pencil out of a tall cup without touching it?
-Can we make a pencil levitate?
After sharing our opinions speaking in English we had to find the solution. We had everything we needed to answer the questions: magnets, school objects, compasses and our creativity! Look at the photo and see the process!
