For Maths class with 3r d’Eso, we carried out an activity entitled The Tower, which was an exercise to identify the total number of blocks in the tower each time a new, larger layer is added to it. The students were given the image below as a template for the tower and were tasked in groups with building it using building blocks and then adding more layers, increasing the size each time. They then had to observe the pattern in the increasing number of blocks in each layer and then create a rule or a formula to explain it.
