A PROBLEM WITH THE SIZE OF THE WOOD FOR THE MODEL’S BASE

We have seen the sizes and price of a wood board. We deduced that after seeing a drawing with sizes and a price. The sizes were in two different formats, with cm and m or with cm and mm. This fact created a conversation around sizes and formats. Someone pointed out that a week could be measured with days or weeks. Therefore seven days equals one week. In the end we concluded the measurements meant the same but they were splitted in different units.

Later we represented on the floor the wood board. One Tintin thought we could use only one board in order to make the base for all our models. Since we need eight, they started dividing the area in two long parts. Later on, they splitted the two rectangles into four with a perpendicular line. Dividing again the rectangles we got a total of eight squares with  61 cm per side.

PREPARING THREE THEATRE PLAYS

We started preparing three teatre plays. After one Rovelló said she has memories about doing a theatre play, we decided to work on three theatre plays. We choose: “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, “We are going on a bear hunt” and “Elmer”.

While one group was working in the text, the other was deciding how to customize the play with attretzo and costumes.

THE STORIES ARE ALMOST TRANSLATED

We have been creating stories related to each side of our project. Now we are translating them. In the process we have realized that it is not possible to translate word by word because some expressions have a meaning all together but they have a completely different one if your translate them word by word. In the meantime we have also discovered some errors in the original writing in Catalan or Spanish.

WE TRANSLATE OUR STORIES INTO ENGLISH

As we have been doing lately, we are translating the stories we have chosen in order to reach our goal: a stop motion story explaining an aspect about our project.

We are finding some difficulties. In some parts of the original texts there are spelling mistakes. As a consequence, translators are not useful.

A great example about how the translator was not accurate is when we wanted to translate: “McDonald’s encantat” and we got: “Enchanted McDonald’s”. Luckily we realized that we meant: “Haunted McDonald’s”.

It’s a tough process but we are liking it and it may be worth it once we finish this challenge.

JOCELYN’S CASTING

In the Jocelyn’s adaptation project, we have finished the text and we are preparing the scenes. The directing team are about to finish the preparation and at this point we need to know who is going to be acting in each scene as well as who is it going to be narrating.

Today we have been doing a casting in order to decide who is going to take part in each scene taking into account who are the directors.

Next Friday we are going to have a look at each video and take the decisions in group.

HOW TO MAKE A COMPASS EXPERIMENT

Today we have been experimenting with magnets and magnetism. First we read how to proceed presenting the materials we need and the process we were going to follow. Then we thought about our hypothesis.

Later we started the experiment. First we made the compass. We checked with another compass that it was working well. The next step it was to add another compass into the bowl. We realized they tended to stuck together. Then we magnetized the compasses moving the magned closser to the bowl. Afterwards, we did the last part of the process: Spining the bowl in order to realize the compass was pointng the North despite the fact of moving the water surrounding it.

LOOKING FOR THE BEST OPTION IN TERMS OF WOOD

Today we have been talking about something perhaps obvious but we didn’t talke about previously. Who are we going to build the birds houses for? In order to do that one Alicia said we could record with a camera who is using them. Apart from that, another person said it would be nice to measure the hole and with that we might be able to guess who is able to live in those houses. One said it could be sparrows, another one sait it coulde be robins. They said swallows are too big.

Later we started looking for the prices of wood. One of our teachers gave us some webpages in order to make it easier to find the best option in terms of wood.

Once we decided which option was better we drawn a rectangle on the classroom’s floor in order to have an idea of how bit it is.

Some students enventually realized wood was no sold in m2, therefore, soon we are going to calculate which one is the best option taking in to account the price and the convenience.

HOW MANY SQUARE METERS OF WOOD DO WE NEED?

We have been working around the amount of wood we are going to need in order to build six nest houses for birds.

Soon we realized we just measured and cutted out four houses so we still have to make two extra houses. We splited the work in four teams, sparrows, owls, swallows and eagles. More or less all of them finished at the same time.

At a certain point some schoolmates from Tintins came to explain their experience with sqare meters. We realized both projects have some similiarities. At least at the point we are now trying to calculate the surface of wood we need.

It was really interesting the conversation about areas. Some Alicies gave some interesting comments about areas and what we should do if we want to order the right amount of wood.

The last step we did it was to try to fit as many pieces of the six houses in the sqare meter we made on the floor within the last session. We all conclude we may need more than one square meter of wood.

TABLE GAMES IN ENGLISH

Today we have been playing some table games. Some of them are based in listening to a message and reacting accordingly, some of them about speaking while playing cards and there is also a collaborative game in which they have to say the name of the fruit and colour and some orders when it is required.

Rovellons seemed appealead by the games and the dynamics generated by the situation.

TABLE GAMES IN PETITS PRINCEPS

Today we have been playing table games. Each game includes and part in which they have to say something in English. Apart from this we started a game about building sentences and translating them.

Overall, they seemed really engaged and they participated really actively. Therefore, we might repeat this dynamic soon.
