Bouncy eggs!

Some days ago we put some raw eggs into three jars: one full of WATER, another jar with ALCOHOL in it and the last one full of VINEGAR. And we let them rest to see what happen…

Yesterday we took them out and… guess what?! Well, you can see it with your own eyes… The eggs that were in the Vinegar jar… BOUNCE!

That is because the shell of an egg is made of calcium carbonate. When you place the egg into the vinegar, you see bubbles, which is the chemical reaction of the acid in the vinegar reacting with the calcium carbonate to produce carbon dioxide. You’ll also notice that the egg gets larger as it sits in the vinegar. That is because some of the vinegar is absorbed in the egg through its semi-permeable membrane!

Isn’t that amazing???!
