Gemma Pettitt, an English teacher from London, England, has just joined the foreign language staff of our high school to support teenagers to speak and write English better. She is part of the visiting teachers working in Catalan schools through a programme for the improvement of teaching foreign languages sponsored by the Ministerio de Educación and coordinated by the Departament d’Educació. The priority for the 2023-24 school year has been to have a supporting teacher in every class, so that students with mixed abilities,levels and interests can be led to the next learning stage successfully. In this context, Gemma Pettitt will soon be working with our younger students from first and second of ESO and their teachers to encourage all of them to use Englilsh meaningfully in their English lessons, as well as to share her cultural background as a British citizen. In the same way, Gemma will also be working with our pre-college students from second of batxillerat, so that they can improve not only their communication skills, but also their writing ability in a more formal context, such as the admission university test they hopefully will face up to soon. Gemma will be in our school until the end of May 2024, when the sponsored programme finishes, and we all really hope that students, teachers, school staff and Gemma will have a great school year learning together !
