All about plants! First GEP for 3rd graders

During the last weeks, pupils from 3rd grade started our GEP project called All about plants!

In this GEP, 3rd grades are going to learn:

  • The parts of the plants.
  • The plants classification.
  • The photosynthesis (nutrition).
  • The relation between humans and plants.

During the firsts sessions they:

  • Play with a dictogloss from the Fairy Tale “Jack and the beanstalk”.
  • Glossary about the vocabulary of the unit: each student has an image and they have to guess which word it is. They also have another one in theirs folders to learn, learn and learn! In order to practice, in pairs, they have to read the words one to each other.
  • Learn the parts of the plant, through a hooking game. Then, they have to spell the missing word on the blackboard.
  • Review what we have learnt with a worksheet and check with their glossary.
  • Watch a video to summarize the lesson.
  • Play a Kahoot about the plant parts: they enjoyed playing this interactive game with the tablets in pairs.
  • Flowering/non-flowering plants activity.
  • To finish the session we played an interactive game to remember plant parts and their spelling and pronunciation. In the following link you can find the game and play at home!
  • Differences between cultivated plants and wild plants: We showed our students some pictures and they had to find the differences between the two types of plants. We did this activity orally in big group.
  • Worksheet cultivated and wild plants: Individually, they had to apply the new concepts. They had to look at the different pictures and classify them. To do it, they had to color the wild ones in green and the cultivated ones in orange.
  • We did an activity about symmetry! Pupils had to draw and color the half of the image given.

We enjoyed a lot during all these sessions! Families, you can see the photos here.
