We all slept well, the families are very welcoming, and they have treated us like their own children.
Since the schedules are different and classes start at 8 in the morning, we had to get up early. Some of us arrive at the Maurice de Vlaminck institute by car, others by school buses, and others on foot. Taking a school bus is a whole new experience.
During the morning, we created a sketch of the logo we want for the project. First, we talked about how we wanted it and set the rules to follow together. At first, it was hard to break the ice and participate orally, but as the morning went on and we started working, everything went better, and we lost our fear of speaking in English and participating. This logo sketch will take digital form at our school when the French students visit us, and we will use the laser cutter to give it its final shape. We took advantage of the morning to take a guided tour of the institute hosting us today, led by students and project partners.
We had lunch at the institute, and afterward, we enjoyed some playtime in the yard with all the students who approached us to get to know us. It was very fun that everyone wanted to talk to us.
In the afternoon, we were taken to visit the center of the city of Verneuil and learn about its history. We were all very impressed by how different the buildings and houses are compared to our city.
Finally, we were received at the town hall where we got to meet different city officials. They offered us a snack, and the host families also participated. At the end, we left with them, some heading home and others to the extracurricular activities that our “siblings” are involved in.
