Hi everybody!
Our experiment is about cleaning a pennies. But how? Mainly, using an acid to remove the oxide layer from the surface of the coin along with a tiny amount of other dirt or soils. Why do dirty pennies become clean after being soaked in acids?
We filled a bowl with water and then we filled it with vinegar. After that, we added a teaspon of salt. We placed the pennies in the vinegar and salt solution and we waited for a short time.
We were so surprised by the magical chemical reaction! The acid attacks the copper plate on a penny so it removes the dirt ! Isn’t that amazing? You can try it at home!
