Global goals & our English class’ name

The innovative project in the English Class

Starting a new year in our IE LONDRES, the students were divided into
three groups that represent three different cities: London, Vancouver and San Francisco. All groups had chosen a Global Goal and started decorating
their class with typical attractions or icons of every city, for example, the
London’s telephone cabins, San Francisco’s cable cars and Vancouver’s
orcas. The rest of the students had been searching information to end up
doing a presentation as a good practice of their oral skills, the so-called“soft-skills”.
The London’s group chose Global Goal: Quality Education. The students
had been investigating the quality there and find the difference from Spain.
They interviewed Mrs. Donna Rose, a P.E. and Erasmus Coordinator in
William Bellamy school in London, Mrs. Rose collaborated with us in a
previous Erasmus project and she was kind in answering our questions:
What country has a higher quality than the other? Or are the same?

Learning more about London and their system of education, the school
uniforms, what is the relationship between teachers and students, etc…
Interviewing a student from the London’s group:
“I like how the project is organized and looks for the students and giving us
the opportunity to know how to communicate in English. In my research I got
surprised that their system is different in the aspect that they learn withprojects rather than only memorizing.”

The San Francisco’s group chose Global Goal: Gender Equality. In this
group they had been given a volunteering team that helped them prepare to
improve their presentations and refine their English. This group made two
displays, one introducing the city with tourist places and their traditions.
While the other students look up about the freedom in gender equality and
homosexuality.

Interviewing a student from the San Francisco’s group:
“I think it’s a great project to improve our oral expressions, expand our
vocabulary, and treating important topics that affect ourselves and the whole
world. It’s also interesting to know that San Francisco is the only city in the
USA with a women’s department.”

The Vancouver’s group chose Global Goal: Life Below Water. Dividing all
students into five groups with five topics, passing through the groups they told
us what they had been searching. First group’s topic was about the economy,
the language, the weather and the national animals. Second group explored
the places to visit, the dangerous districts, famous parks, bridges and football
teams. Third team had information about the History, the currency and the
expensive people. Fourth team wanted to know about the tourism, the sports
stadium and the indigenous settlements. Finally the fifth team found about the
sea level comparison of 80 years ago, the greenest city, the location, festivals
and green programs.

Interviewing a student from the Vancouver’s group:
“This was a perfect way to learn more about the cities around the world just
like I learned that Vancouver is the greenest city in the world and with clean
oceans.”
