DIGESTION PROGRESS

Digestion begins in the mouth where the food is chewed and mixed with saliva containing enzymes that initiate the chemical process of digestion, forming the food bolus.
The food is compressed and directed from the mouth into the esophagus by swallowing, and from the esophagus to the stomach, where the food is mixed with acid that breaks it down. The food bolus is transformed into chyme.
When in the small intestine, most nutrients are absorbed. All this mixture now constitutes the pound.
The end of digestion is the accumulation of chyme in the large intestine where the water is absorbed and then defecate the stool.
