Easter and Spring! A european project in English

Per segon any consecutiu, els nens i nenes de primer participen en un projecte d’eTwinning, una plataforma educativa europea que permet a diferents escoles d’Europa connectar-se i aprendre col·laborativament a través de la llengua anglesa. El tema del projecte torna a ser el de la primavera i la pasqua, igual que l’any passat, però aquest any canviem de país i ens hem aparellat amb una escola de Nikea, Grècia.

Des de l’Escola del Mar creiem que el fet de participar en un projecte d’aquest tipus és molt enriquidor pels alumnes que estan aprenent una llengua estrangera, en aquest cas l’anglès. El fet de conèixer nens i nenes d’un altre país que parlen la seva pròpia llengua però també estan aprenent anglès els fa sentir-se units i tenir moltes ganes de treballar conjuntament. A més, els serveix per adonar-se de la importància de saber parlar anglès, ja que comencen a entendre que és una llengua necessària per comunicar-se amb persones de qualsevol lloc del món.

Les famílies poden accedir a la plataforma TwinSpace des de casa per veure el progrés de les activitats que anem fent, a més de fotos dels alumnes gaudint del projecte.

El projecte el comencem a mitjans del segon trimestre, quan ja s’acosta la primavera. El primer pas va ser conèixer als nostres companys grecs a través d’una videoconferència i presentar-nos en anglès, dient el nostre nom i alguna cosa que ens agradés, per exemple: “Hello, my name is Marc and I like ice-creams”. També vam aprofitar per aprendre alguna paraula en grec, i ells en català!

Seguidament, vam decidir desitjar-nos una feliç pasqua enviant-nos ous de pasqua decorats per correu postal, els nens i nenes es van motivar molt i van esforçar-se molt en fer els ous ben bonics, ja que eren un regal! Uns dies més tard, ens va fer molta il·lusió rebre el paquet dels nostres amics grecs! Vam decidir penjar-los al nostre passadís perquè fessin molt de goig!

Però el projecte no acaba aquí! Tenim moltes ganes de seguir treballant conjuntament i d’aprendre moltes coses sobre la primavera i la Pasqua. 

CLIL Project

CLIL has been introduced to the school for many years now and it’s becoming more and more rooted. It’s carried out in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades.

So, What is CLIL?

CLIL stands for Content and Language Integrated Learning and refers to teaching subjects such as science, history and geography to students through a foreign language.

Some important facts about CLIL are:

  1. Language as the vehicle. Language occurs naturally in the discourse frames associated with the conceptual content, and as a result of the communicative exchanges required by task-based methodology.
  2. Activity types: There are four activity types best suited to CLIL practice.
    These are:
    a) Activities to enhance peer communication
    b) Activities to help develop reading strategies
    c) Activities to guide student production
    d) Activities to engage higher cognitive skills(make students think – offer a variety of procedural opportunities for employing a range of operations)

So, hands-on activities are the ones mostly used in CLIL sessions. Students manipulate, experiment, and come to conclusions from classroom activities. And the contents worked on are related to those working with the teacher in the science lessons. All those contents are supported by New Sites platforms created this school year, where students have a variety of videos, games and extra information to review and/or expand their knowledge.

The English Corners

We have implemented the English Corners in our school during the last few years. 

Learning Corners is a special learning activity for children which strongly promotes Independence and Love of Learning. Basically, it involves all the children playing and working on various tasks in the same classroom, under the supervision of the teacher.

It’s all about hands-on learning, interaction with others and discovery.

In the English Corners, the students cover all the skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) using different types of games, tasks and devices such as tablets or computers… It’s another way to learn, practise and reinforce the vocabulary and grammar worked at the units.

4t English: The Poster of Healthy Habits

El 2n trimestre l’alumnat de 4t ha treballat els hàbits saludables a anglès. Han buscat la informació, les imatges, i n’han fet un esborrany. Un cop tot recopilat, s’han organitzat en grups i han dissenyat un póster que reflecteixi el més important. (s’ha utilitzat el power point o bé el padlet). Tot i que el confinament ens ha agafat amb alguns d’inacabats i/o a mig corregir, han quedat molt bé! Són uns artistes!
