Institut Torrent dels Alous is a recently created secondary school located in Rubí, 20 km away from Barcelona. The school opened in the academic year 2011-12. Today we host about 600 students and 50 teachers. We offer secondary studies of compulsory education (aged 12-16) and “Batxillerat” studies (aged 16-18) equivalent to A-levels.

Our motto is “quality is achieved by people working together”. It’s our goal to make teachers, students, parents and community work together for success. Our aim at Institut Torrent dels Alous is for all students to achieve their potential and enable them to get the best preparation for their future choices.

Our main strength is a team of commited teachers devoted to their students and a tutorial guidance and compromise based on two main aspects: academic support and personality and social development.

Our main objectives are focused on:

1) INDIVIDUAL SUCCESS, making sure that every student develops their own potential

2) SKILLS FOR THE WORLD, insisting on the practical aspects of science, maths and technology and communication

3) LANGUAGES, insisting on written and oral skills and the mastery of foregin languages

4) TECHNOLOGY integrated in class, communication with families, website

5) CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION with the implementation of different projects to promote values and the pleasure for art and music

Our projects and activities

  • Teaching-learning methodology:
    • Textbooks and Readers (for linguistic subjects) in combination with new technologies with materials created by teachers (Moodle and Google Classroom)
    • Cross-curricular projects and Topic-based mini-projects in several subjects
    • Tandem-teaching
  • Foreign languages (English, French, German):
    • English: CLIL Science, final school trip to Dublin (Ireland)
    • French as a second language: EMILE Social Sciences, one-week language course in France, Preparation for Official Examinations
    • German as a second language: NEW!
  • Projects with the Community:
    • Choir with the elderly: winner of a local award for the best Project in the town promoting citizenship 2016
    • A day with the school Ca n’Oriol for teenagers with special needs
    • Barris (“Neighbourhoods”): working together with the city council for the improvement of the school environment and community
  • Citizenship Projects:
    • Transversal and mixed-levels artistic project: every year we prepare a life performance of a great exhibition or show created by students from different levels (1st to 3rd of ESO, aged 12-15)
    • Project “Circle of Friends” and “Peer Guidance”
    • Health: promoting sport and healthy eating habits
    • Environmental Projects:
      • “Green School Activities”
      • Science Project: “React”
  • International Projects: Erasmus+ KA1 “Re-Act!” (Partner School in Denmark) and Erasmus+ KA1 “Revolution!” (Partner School in Germany) for job shadowing and CLIL Courses, ICT, new methodologies, and inclusion in the countries all over Europe)
