European STEM STEP (2020-2023)

European STEM STEP is a two-year Erasmus + K101 project designed to strengthen the capacities and international reach of the Institute of secondary education Ins de Celrà as well as improve the professional development of teachers, especially in the use of new STEM teaching methodologies in areas like science and technology.

We believe that introducing changes in the way we teach our lessons will help our students with motivation, problem solving, being more creative or having a critical thinking. In short, it will help them improve their scientific-technological skills.

For these changes to be really possible, specific teacher training is essential. Therefore, we have programmed structured training courses where professors from the science and technology departments will attend with the objective of integrating STEM learning methodologies in the classroom. In fact, this 2019-20 course, some of the teachers of both departments are already participating in an internal training with the aim of starting to introduce new teaching methodologies that help motivate students to study these areas.

The MAIN OBJECTIVES of our EUROPEAN STEM STEP project are:

1) GRANTING A EUROPEAN DIMENSION to the educational institution, by implementing changes in terms of modernization and international cooperation and promoting opportunities for cooperation with other European educational centers.

2) IMPROVING ACADEMIC RESULTS of our students, in particular with regard to scientific and technological competences.

3) PURCHASING NEW TEACHING METHODOLOGIES in STEM areas.

4) INCREASING STEM VOCATIONS.

5) GIVING VISIBILITY TO FEMALE REFERENTS to promote gender parity in STEM areas.

6) CREATING LINKS BETWEEN THE CENTER AND THE LOCAL COMPANIES.

7) APPROACHING COMPETENTIAL ACTIVITIES THAT REINFORCE LEARNING IN REAL CONTEXTS.
