SCIENCE 🧪

Learning science in a non-native language offers children numerous advantages. Beyond acquiring scientific knowledge, it enhances their language proficiency, fostering bilingualism and cognitive flexibility.

Scientific concepts often transcend language barriers, providing a practical context for learning new vocabulary and complex ideas. In second grade science we have been working with students to improve their classification skills of animals in the English language. This dual-language exposure not only strengthens their grasp of both science and language but helps them them gradually think about more complex topics, starting with naming animals and moving to the different ways we can classify them.

Overall, the cognitive and linguistic benefits gained from learning science in a non-native language create a foundation for well-rounded individuals.
