Nowadays society cannot escape social media. We live glued to our smartphones and social networks. We have built a virtual environment, which is usually our main and only connection with the world around us.
Students of ESO 4 have been asked to reflect on the issue and they have been reading and watching in class the poem Look up written by Gary Turk.
Taking this inspiring poem and its powerful message as a reference, students have been told to read out loud the text in a collaborative way to encourage people, specially teenagers, to take a break from their online lives to experience authentic connections and relationships.
This activity, as well as discussing some controversial topics in our world today, aims also to improve language skills such as reading comprehension and oral expression by working with key contents related to reading aloud: voice tone, voice inflection and modulation, intonation, pronunciation and fluency.
Poetry has given us the chance in this case to take part in a collective initiative which we have all enjoyed a lot. Below you can watch our video and enjoy it with us.
