For a long time, the school has been conscious of the importance and necessity of the mastery of the English language in the globalized society we live in. For this reason, we work to incorporate the language into the educational objective of the school.
There are 7 English teachers who have been trained to accomplish all the different English projects, both In Childhood Education and Primary levels. All these projects have been approved and funded by the Department of Education.
Our work begins in Childhood Education (from 3 to 5 years old). At this stage, the main aim is for the students to familiarize themselves with the English language through short stories, songs, and games in a relaxed, natural and contextualized way to foster communication and to ensure opportunities for dialogue. Our intention is to create an environment conducive to promoting communication in an enjoyable and comfortable environment.
At the Primary stage, we progressively increase the English language sessions. We promote the use of oral language skills .From the 3rd level to the 6th level, once a week, there are “work corners,” where the students work on skills, such as, listening, reading, writing, and speaking in an independent manner that best suits their level of ability and pace.
In the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades, we incorporate three Art workshops and what we call “Ambients” for “Games” and “Arts and Crafts” , both in English (1st and 2nd grade); for 4th grade in Art, and for 5th and 6th grades in Science.( STEAM)
“Practice makes perfect.” As with any spoken language, the more you practice the better you become. “Languages are alive, and if we do not use them in a significant and useful way, they will die.” We have many of these sayings at school, and they are used to inspire, motivate and encourage the students to use the English language skills they have learned as a powerful vehicle for communication.
At the school, we promote the English language through the following activities:
- Conversation / Games Groups with American students.
- Regular access to and renting from library of English books
- Trips to see English plays
- Listening to stories read aloud by British and American native speaker.
- Exchange of letters and projects with schools from English speaking countries
Des de fa molts anys tot el claustre de l’escola és conscient de la gran importància i necessitat del domini de la llengua anglesa per ser competent en la societat globalitzada en què vivim. És per això, que el foment i el treball per incorporar aquesta llengua en el nostre projecte educatiu és una realitat que portem a terme des de fa temps.
Els set especialistes d’anglès amb els que compta l’escola s’han format per poder portar a terme els diferents projectes lingüístics d’anglès del centre, tant d’Educació Infantil com d’Educació Primària, tots ells aprovats, guiats i finançats pel Departament d’Educació.
La nostra feina comença a l’Educació Infantil ja des de P3. En aquesta etapa l’objectiu principal és que l’alumne es familiaritzi amb la llengua anglesa a través de contes, cançons, jocs… d’una manera relaxada, natural i contextualitzada per fomentar la comunicació i garantir el diàleg. D’aquesta manera es creen situacions comunicatives i significatives pels alumnes que fan que aquests gaudeixin mentre aprenen.
A Primària augmentem de manera progressiva les sessions en llengua anglesa i garantim l’ús oral de la llengua. A més, A partir de 3r, un cop per setmana treballem per racons “corners” on els alumnes treballen les diferents habilitats de listening, speaking, reading i writing de forma autònoma i cadascú al seu ritme.
A 1r, 2n i 3r incorporem tres tallers d’Art (Plàstica en anglès) i dos ambients a Cicle Inicial: “Games” i “Arts & Crafts”. A 4t l’àrea de plàstica també es fa en aquesta llengua i a 5è i 6è introduïm un taller de “STEAM”
“A parlar s’aprèn parlant”. “Els idiomes són vius, si no els fem servir d’una manera significativa i útil moren”. Aquests lemes els tenim molt presents, per tant, a l’escola es creen i es promouen diferents moments on els alumnes puguin fer ús i posar en pràctica el que aprenen per tal de fer la llengua anglesa un vehicle de comunicació “real”.
Des de l’escola fomentem la llengua anglesa amb les següents activitats:
- Grups de conversa i jocs amb estudiants americans durant l’horari escolar a tots els nivells.
- Accés al préstec de llibres en anglès .
- Sortides per veure obres en anglès.
- Contes explicats per nadius.
- Intercanvi de correspondència i projectes amb escoles de parla anglesa.
