Measuring Rain in Our School Garden

Our 2nd-grade students have built their own rain gauges to measure how much water falls in our school garden. This fun DIY project helped them understand how important water is for plant growth.

Through observation and discussion, the children learned that while water is essential for life, too much water can actually harm plants. To record their results, they created a numerical scale on their rain gauges, exploring the mathematical concept of quantity in a hands-on way.

This activity combined science and math in a meaningful context — caring for our garden and learning how nature works!
