Helping Our School with Water Drainage!

Two weeks ago, Valencia experienced a heavy rainstorm known as DANA. This storm caused serious flooding, resulting in many tragic losses and damage to homes and roads. Fortunately, in Granollers, rains were not so bad. In our school, the storms formed huge puddles in areas of the playground with poor drainage like the agora. Our primary students didn’t just wait for the water to disappear. Instead, they grabbed tools from our school garden and worked together to create channels to help drain the water quickly (see photo below). They learned that building waterways can prevent floods and keep our communities safe.

These fun activities not only helped our school, but also taught us an important lesson about teamwork, science, and caring for our environment.

Fun Fact: Did you know that ancient civilizations, like the Romans, built aqueducts to transport water over long distances? They were very clever in using channels to help manage water, just like we’re doing here at our school!

Let’s continue working together to keep our school and community safe and clean!
