An amazing experience in Greece

TUESDAY

Our first contact with our Greek partners was the first sign of their hospitality. Catalan students and teachers were welcomed with abundant Greek delicacies for lunch.

At night, teachers and parents from the 1st senior high school of Keratsini  prepared a welcome party at their school and the students amazed us with their dances, songs, disco and of course, lots of delicious food. We are now certain that we will all go back home with a few extra kilos…

It was altogether an unforgettable night.

WEDNESDAY

On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to visit the Acrópolis (ἀκρόπολις), where ruins of the Parthenon and the Erechtheion, built on the Vth C B.C, are still standing majestically.

After our walk through ancient history, we strolled the streets of Plaka. It just felt amazing to set foot on the same streets where the greatest ancient philosophers like Socrates and Aristotle had walked centuries ago.

THURSDAY

An hour and a half trip by coach was totally worth it. The visit to the Temple of Poseidón constructed in 444–440 BC on top of the Cape of Sounio(Σούνιο) offered us heartbreaking views of the Aegean sea.

We also spent some time walking the streets of Varkiza, a coastal city in the Athens Riviera.

FRIDAY

Catalan students, together with their hosts, spent a couple of hours in both schools, Nikaia and Keratsini, to have a little taste of the Greek educational system and enjoy some of their classes.

We spent the rest of the morning until lunch time in the port of Piraeus, where we had a guided tour at the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus and then walked through Sotiros street and reached Pasalimani.

In the evening, 4th Senior Highschool of Nikaia prepared a farewell party filled with Greek culture; traditional dances, songs and even a traditional Greek show of shadow puppets called Karagiozis (Καραγκιόζης). Parents cooked delicious Greek dishes that could have fed the whole city of Nikaia.

SATURDAY

Our trip to Athens came to an end and the best way to see if the students had enjoyed their exchange was the tears and hugs among both Catalan and Greek students in their farewell. They don’t know yet, but this will definitely be an experience that will be engraved in their minds and hearts forever.
