Let’s design greener neighborhoods!

In INS Thalassa, the students of 1st of ESO have been challenged to redesign their neighborhoods into more environmentally-friendly, safe and open places for everyone to play, interact and improve social cohesion. This activity was based in CLIL methodology whereby English and Mathematics merge into new and more innovative ways of teaching and learning. Students, therefore, had to use scales and calculate areas and perimeters as well as understand how to design a greener neighborhood, what facilities and amenities to include and what kind of roads and pedestrian walks would better improve air quality and mobility in the city. At the end of the project, students had to expose their project in front of the class and “sell it” in order to convince the audience to vote for their group neighborhood. During the exhibit, students were asked to justify their projects, the scale and in what way they had made them greener.

This project was designed and performed by Ariadna Casas and Daniel Montes.
