Rovaniemi Sports Week: we are back!

These few days in Rovaniemi, Finland, have been intense and active as well as a great opportunity for learning. We have practised new sports, played games and danced traditional Catalan and Finnish dances.

On Monday morning, while it was dark and snowing, we visited Santa’s Village and asked for lots of good health as a Christmas present. Santa Claus said hello to us and everyone in Catalonia, everything is ready for the 24th eve! In the afternoon, we met the Finnish students for the first time and played some get-to-know-you games as well as floorball, a common indoor sport in Finland which is similar to hockey.

During the next few days we also practiced ice skating, traditional skiing, played football in the snow and discovered Finnish baseball, we were quite good at it. What is more, we even swam in the frozen river and looked for the northern lights! Not with much luck, but we had fun walking in the forest at night with the moon light over us.

Our Finnish counterparts were interested in knowing more about Blanes, so we shared with them the sports we practise at school, like scubadiving, sailing or paddle surfing, and also our funniest Christmas tradition: el Tió de Nadal. They got to try neules, torrons and typical Catalan biscuits. Then, they brought us to a forest campfire where we got to try reindeer meat and excellent Finnish chocolate.

Over all, the trip was a huge success as we exchanged lots of valuable cultural information as well as explored Lapland, the land of snow, reindeer and Santa. We had a great time, we will be happy to welcome them soon! Kiitos!
