FIRST LANGUAGE IMMERSION EXPERIENCE AT RAMON TURRÓ
Last May, some of our 2nd ESO students took their first English language immersion experience in England. Our students travelled to Cirencester, a Medieval town located 150 km west from London and enjoyed a 6-day trip there. They stayed with some host families where they could not only practice English in a real context but also live in first person British culture, manners, food and the British way of living.
Every day, students attended some English morning classes at Cotswold International Language School, where some native teachers taught them interesting lessons to reinforce students’ oral communication. After that, students took out their packed lunches which had been previously prepared by their host families. In the afternoon, they had the chance to take part in some activities, such as trivia games, traditional English sports, interviews with people around town, and so on.
Students went home to have dinner with their families at 6pm, following the British tradition and participated in everyday family life. Then, there were either some scheduled evening activities or students could stay with the families to practice their speaking skills. On top of that, they even had a day off to go sightseeing around London city and taste some typical fish and chips at a local restaurant!
All in all, both teachers and students feel it has been an incredible experience to launch their English skills, to open their minds and get to know other cultures.
