TED-Ed CLUB 2024

TED-Ed Clubs are a part of TED-Ed’s Student Talks Program, a free curriculum for students and educators on a mission to identify, develop, and deliver students´ ideas via TED-style talks under the slogan “ideas worth spreading”. When it was founded, in 1984, TED (which stands for “Technology, Entertainment, and Design”) brought together a few hundred people in a single annual conference in California.

A total of 6 teams with 14 students of 1st Bat participated in the TED-Ed Club 2024 (Reus-Baix Camp) on the past 29th April in Infant Pere auditorium in l´Hospitalet de l´Infant. This educational project consisted of giving a 3-minute talk about the future. Carrying out this new challenge the pupils developed not only their creativity but also their oral communication skills. The task is included in the course curriculum and the most creative presentations were chosen to participate in this experience. On this occasion some of our students helped with the organization of the event.

The convention lasted two hours and at the end all the participants were awarded with a Certificate for participating in the TED-Ed Club Talks 2024 edition. Students and teachers eager to hear the talks had great fun. Congratulations to everybody!!!

This year as a novelty the dress rehearsal pretended to be The Oscars Awards Ceremony 2024. It was done in the high school assembly room on the 23rd April and CRP ( Reus-Baix Camp) hosted the ceremony.

These are some of the opinions of the participants:

«This project has helped me to be more confident on the stage and control my nerves when speaking in public. It is also helpful to be aware of your pronunciation» (Alba Mantecón Liaño)

«I am very satisfied with this experience because it has been my first challenge in the English subject and I would like to do it again» (Arnau Pons Badenes)

«I think that this is a good opportunity to practice oral presentations in the high school» (Èlia Sastre Farnós)

«It is a chance to do something different. At the beginning, it was hard and my team and I were very nervous but at the end we got it. I honestly recommend it» (Aina Aragonès Tonda)

«This experience has helped me to be more confident when it comes to public speaking. The dress rehearsal at the auditorium helped me with the nerves of being alone on the stage and feel comfortable presenting my talk» (Selena Ruiz Sarmiento)

«It is a very good learning situation to improve your communication skills. The hardest thing is to present your personal ideas in front of the audience on a stage. Despite the hard work, it´s worths it» (Joan Jardi Marco)

«We are the group of Denisa, Irene and Adriana and we really enjoyed this experience. It helped us get a little more over our stage fright and shyness, and it was great to learn and get more fluid in speaking English. We recommend future students to take on this experience» (Adriana Arnau, Irene Ceballos, Denisa Scarlat)

«In  our opinion, the TED TALK activity was a great way to learn English, how to do a presentation and how to deal with nerves. It also gave us confidence. So, if someone asked us if we would recommend it, we would say: yes, of course!» (Maria Gil, Candela Llamas, Júlia Solé)
