A Day at Hortus: Learning About Farm Life

Last week, our second grade students enjoyed a wonderful school trip to Hortus (a farm school and ecological rental gardens in Samalús, at the foot of the Montseny Natural Park) which is dedicated to teaching children how to create and care for their own vegetable gardens. It was an exciting and educational day that allowed students to experience the beauty of the countryside and learn more about where our food comes from.

During the visit, the children took part in hands-on activities related to planting and growing vegetables. They also had the chance to see and interact with real farm animals, such as horses, pigs, cows, roosters, and hens.

This outing was an excellent opportunity for our students to discover what farmers do every day and to see animals in their natural environment — not just in books or pictures. Everyone came back to school with smiles, new knowledge, and a deeper appreciation for nature and farm life (see photos below).
