Educational approach

The objectives of the Secondary Education Institute of Calaf are those defined by the Department of Education of the Generalitat of Catalonia for the Compulsory Secondary Education Cycle (12-16 years) and the Baccalaureate (16-18 years). Among these, but the center wants to emphasize certain aspects as a result of considering its geographical and social situation.

-Calaf’s high school must be a center of culture in its territorial scope, favoring the knowledge and the survival of local traditions and the integration in the social and cultural movements that are developed in the country and in the world.

– It must be educated in the sense of the responsibility of the person, not only in front of his family and work, but also in front of his neighbors and fellow citizens. The participatory spirit of the students and the school will be encouraged, with a critical and responsible spirit.

-The students will be given a clear reference to what the rights and duties of the person, contained in the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” mean not only as the promotion of democratic society but as a milestone of justice and universal solidarity

-To teach to appreciate the values of the natural environment of the sub-county, indicating in what way nature can be defended by obtaining the necessary benefits.

-This institution must collaborate in the economic development of the Sub-Region of Alta Segarra, especially through vocational training, in close collaboration with the economic agents.

Integration in the social, cultural and economic environment

In an educational center, the universal components of culture must be manifested. But it must also serve to deepen the knowledge of the natural environment, human groups, customs, economy, culture, that is, the differential traits that shape their environment. It is then when the educational center plays a cultural center role. This social role is very different in a small human nucleus than in a large city. Geographic awareness is much clearer in and for all the components of the educational system.

This philosophy of integration in the environment is translated into specific actions. The universal and country component of culture is what is contemplated in the guidelines given for school cycles, but the local component must be incorporated on the initiative of the center.

The following actions are addressed at Calaf’s high-school:

-Study of the natural environment in the First Synthesis Credit and the “Natural environment” Credit of experimental sciences.

– Study on local issues.

– Coordination of extracurricular activities with other schools and entities.

In addition to these scheduled activities, we have also thought about:

– Participation in cultural activities or parties.

– Perform service activities in the towns linked to the institute.

– School journal

– Bachillerate search work.
