El Prat City – Learning situation

When learning a new language, one of the most useful skills is understanding and explaining the geography of a city.
For non-native English speakers, the ability to describe a city’s structure zone by zone—such as north, south, east, and west—helps in both practical communication and deeper cultural understanding.
It was our privilege and honour to recive a letter from the deputy mayor of El Prat, Anna, to help them know the city better. El Prat in the present and the past. We couldn’t ask for a better opportunity as the 5th grade had just  started a unit: Around the city. This was the best possible learning situation.
The class was divided into 4 zones. Each group was asked to dive in deep to discover the structure of El Prat city, in the present and past. Explore important buildings like libraries, hospitals, restaurants, cemetery, airport, civic centres, train stations, sport centres, markets etc. find the history and how they have evolved over the years.
As the projects picked up pace and students gathered the relevant information and documented the information in presentations. Soon the students entered the next stage- to build 3 D models of their zone and bring the city to life in their models. Anna, Leti and Mari from the education department were generous to take out time from their busy schedule and spend their morning at Tarradellas school. They sat through the entire morning, viewing every presentation and models. Engaged and shared their enthusiasm with each group.
We at Tarradellas school are immensely proud of our students for their hard work and their continuous effort.
