Sant Jordi

Sant Jordi, on 23rd April, the greatest literary and cultural celebration in Catalonia, something unique all over the world to honour our writers and our language. Unfortunately, this year we are going to celebrate it at home due to confinement. It is the day of love and roses, surrounded by books of all type, which gathers hundreds of thousands of people in the street of every single village and city in the whole Catalan countries.
In order to celebrate this wonderful Catalan fest some students have been reading poems in English by renowned local poet Gerard Vergés (Tortosa, born 7th March 1931 – deceased 23rd April 2014) and had them recorded. They had been translated by teacher and writer Emigdi Subirats and published in the book “Long play for a sad soul” (2015), which was promoted by our school parents’ association. Student Aqip Chaudhry (4t ESO A) has done a very good work with a video in which 10 students have taken part: Ainhoa Pitart, Èric Falcón, Albert Bedós, Maria Rusu, Gisela Llombart and Iona Ruiz (4t ESO C), Maria Domingo, Samia Sbaay, and Mariam Erraklayd (1r Batx C) and Núria Arnau (1r Batxi D).
It has been a very nice way of celebrating the day of the book, while honoring such greatest poet, who translated Shakespere into the Catalan language.
