The 2017/18 school magazine issue featured the following article on the first year of GEP.
GENERACIÓ PLURILINGÜE
Joan Cartanyà
Coordinador del programa GEP
This year our school has become part of the Generació Plurilingüe (G.E.P) programme. The objective of the programme is to get students to work in a multilingual environment, which should eventually translate into a better level of English. More important than that though, we aim to mimic the reality outside our classrooms, a reality where different languages share their presence in universities, private companies, the media, …. everywhere. We want students to be ready to perform successfully in our multilingual world.
This year, students of 3rd and 4th ESO and 1st BAT have taken part of some subjects in English: technology, mathematics and economy.
We have asked two 3rd ESO students (one of them a native speaker of English) to write about Their experience.
TECHNOLOGY IN ENGLISH

Marina González and Sarah Kernane
In 3rd ESO we have been taking our technology classes in English as well as in Catalan.
The classes have helped us to get a higher level in comprehension and writing.
We have been doing activities like watching videos and reading texts in English to later comment about them. Basically, we have learned about how the internet works, what bytes are, privacy terms and conditions, programming and more.
Usually, our teacher Cristobal would explain partly in Catalan, then deal with the vocabulary in English and watch the video. Afterwards, we would comment on it.
We think that, in some aspects, it may be a bit harder for some students to learn this way, partly because we just started this year and not everyone has the same level of English. However, we think it is a good way to learn technology and English at the same time.
We would also like to suggest that including games and other activities would motivate more the students. All in all however, we think it’s a good methodology and we think we should continue using it and try to apply it to other subjects.
