Joshua has taught about Christmas traditions in the United States. There were many things that were familiar to students already but some things that weren’t. One thing they knew of for certain was how children typically write letters to Santa Claus asking for presents and leave him cookies and milk on Christmas Eve. In the US, many families decorate the outside of their houses with lights, Nativity scenes, and inflatable characters. In extreme cases, some people synchronize music with the lights on their house for an incredible show! This is something that some students had never seen. The traditional Christmas dinner has many of the same foods as Thanksgiving, such as turkey, stuffing, and pies. It is very popular to watch Christmas movies and sing Christmas carols during this time of year, as well. At the end of the lesson, students shared some of the Christmas traditions they have in Catalonia and sang Christmas songs in Catalan and Spanish!
