2nd & 3rd ESO – Personalized Learning and Classroom Language Practice

This week (16-20 September), in the 2nd and 3rd-year English classes of ESO, students took diagnostic tests to assess their level of knowledge in the subject. These tests help us identify each student’s strengths and areas for improvement, allowing us to personalize learning and ensure that everyone can make optimal progress.

In addition, we’ve been focusing on classroom language—practical phrases and expressions we will be using during lessons. The goal is for students to become comfortable using English naturally, both when communicating with each other and when speaking with their teachers. We’ve practiced phrases for asking for help, expressing doubts, and responding to common classroom situations, such as: “What does it mean?”, “Shall I repeat?”, “Can you speak up, please?”, ‘I don’t remember’ or “I don’t understand.”

To support this learning, we are using the Quizlet app, which helps students practice and memorize these expressions in a fun and interactive way. Quizlet’s success lies in its spaced repetition system, which is highly effective. Students who wish to can download the app on their phones or tablets, or use it on their laptops or computers to study outside of school, which we highly recommend.

This work is crucial in building students’ confidence when communicating in English and in creating a more immersive and engaging classroom environment.
