Sculptures with recycled materials: a project inspired by Georgia Dickie
During the second term the 4th grade students worked on sculpture in an original and creative way as part of the GEP subject. The project was inspired by the artist Georgia Dickie, a sculptor born in 1989 in Toronto (Canada), who creates works using found objects that she collects in her studio. Dickie is an internationally recognized artist: she was one of the winner of the Sobey Art Award in 2020 and received the Toronto Friends of the Visual Arts Artist Prize in 2014.
Following her example, our students brought all kinds of recycled materials to school and, in groups, they thought about how they could transform these elements into an artistic structure. Once they had decided on a design, each group created their own artwork, putting their imagination and practical skills into action. Finally, they presented in English their works to the whole class, explaining their process and inspiration.
This project was a great opportunity to discover that art can emerge from any object, and creativity has no limits when we work together.
