We visited Poblet Monastery

On Tuesday 16th of November, primary 6 pupils of Eladi Homs school —Panthers— went to Poblet, by bus, to visit the Monastery.
We departed from school at 9:10 o’clock and arrived to Poblet at 9:50. It was a cold day and it rained a little bit.
First we had breakfast and then we split in two groups to do some learning activities around the monastery, about the history, the architecture and the monks’ life. We visited the cloister, the library, the kitchen, the refectory, the dorter, the chapter house, the parlour, the warming house… We couldn’t visit the church because it was closed. It was under renovation.
Later we went outside the monastery. We looked for and drew the builders’ marks on the walls.
At midday we had lunch and played games.
In the afternoon we built a model of the monastery and visited the Iron Fountain of Poblet. The activities were developed in English and Catalan.
Our favourite activities were looking for the builders’ marks on the walls, making the model of the monastery, the one walking around the cloister using mirrors and visiting the fountain.
The experience was useful for we to learn the plan of the Cistercian monasteries, the Gothic style, the Romanesque style and the monks’ life.
