Dins del programa d’Erasmus que s’està duent a terme a l’escola en els darrers dos anys, després de les experiències a Finlàndia, França, Portugal, ara hi afegim un nou destí, Malta.
Durant una setmana tindré l’oportunitat de conèixer l’escola Saint Thomas More College Primary A a Zejtun, Malta. Es tracta d’una escola ubicada en un gran edifici del segle XVIII que dóna cabuda a dos centres el Primary A que comprèn els cursos des de I3 a 3r i el Primary B on hi ha els cursos de 4t a 6è. Els grups de I3 a 3r tenen una mitjana de 12 alumnes per aula, a banda de la tutora, a cada aula hi ha una o dues persones de suport per als alumnes de necessitats educatives especials, a partir de 4t són uns 20/24 alumnes per grup classe.
Des del punt de vista de l’ensenyament de l’anglès, aquest destí és molt interessant perquè Malta té dues llengües oficials: el maltès i l’anglès, per tant a les escoles ensenyen totes dues. Durant l’etapa d’Infantil és a nivell oral ia partir de 1r s’ensenya de forma més sistemàtica i s’utilitza a les assignatures de Medi natural i social, Matemàtiques i clar anglès. L’entorn familiar dels alumnes afavoreix que els nens i les nenes arribin a l’escola amb coneixement de l’anglès i, a més, tenen la televisió i/o els vídeos de Youtube que majoritàriament estan en anglès.
Segur que aquesta experiència serà molt enriquidora per millorar la nostra tasca docent.
Within the Erasmus program that is being carried out at the school in the last two years, after the experiences in Finland, France, Portugal, we are now adding a new destination, Malta.
During one week I will have the opportunity to visit Saint Thomas More College Primary A in Malta. It is a school located in a large building from the 18th century that accommodates two centers, Primary A which includes grades I3 to 3rd and Primary B where grades 4th to 6th are. The groups from I3 to 3º have an average of 12 students per classroom, apart from the tutor, in each classroom, there is one or two support people for students with special educational needs, from 4º there are about 20/24 students per class group.
From the point of view of teaching English, this destination is very interesting because Malta has two official languages: Maltese and English, so both are taught in schools. During the Kindergarten stage it is only an oral English teaching and from year 1 it is taught in a more systematic way and is used in the subjects of Natural and Social Environment, Mathematics and plain English. The family environment of the students favors that the boys and girls arrive at the school with knowledge of English and, in addition, they have television and/or YouTube videos that are mostly in English.
Surely this experience will be very enriching to improve our teaching work.
