ALEXIS ZORBAS

Alexis Zorbas was Greek and he became famous as the hero of Nikos Kazantzakis’s novel Life and State of Alexis Zorbas.
This novel written by the Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis, published in 1946. It is the story of a young English intellectual who escapes from his monotonous and boring life with the help of the boisterous and mysterious Alexis Zorba. It was adapted in 1964 to the cinema in the version directed by Michael Cacoyannis, of the same name, as well as to a musical in 1968.
This work played an important role in becoming one of the greatest writers in the world.

    ZORBA THE GREEK DANCE SYRTAKI

The film was released in 1965.With the release of the film, the song became known all over the world, while various musicians from all countries and from all genres of music adapted it, giving it a place in many music charts worldwide. The dance is also known as “Zorba the Greek Dance Syrtaki”.

The piece appears in the film on the beach scene where Basil asks Zorba to teach him to dance. The track follows rhythm acceleration. The dancers form a line or circle and hold the shoulder of their neighbor while dancing. It is not easy for everyone to endure until the end of the piece. As the pace goes up so much, the steps get faster and faster.

Last week in the music lesson we decided to teach it to the children of the fifth and sixth grade, because it is a very nice and fun dance.
