The Mollet del Vallès Adult Training Center has organized a guided visit in English to the Menhir of our city, on December 4, as a complementary activity to the English 1 group classes in the morning. The day was splendid, although it was quite cold. On 17th December, ANG 2 F1 M enjoyed this tour, too.
The Menhir, located at Jordi Solé Tura Literary Garden of the Municipal Library, is one of the most well-known and visited places in Mollet del Vallès, in the center of the city and within a public park.
The visit was guided by Marina, a Fundació Municipal Joan Abelló guide, who told us about the discovery of the Menhir in 2009 in the Parc de les Pruneres while they were working on its construction, the meaning of the word menhir and its dimensions and weight (4.90 m x110 cm, and 6 tons). It was also interesting to know that its composition is granitic rock that is not found in Mollet del Vallès or nearby towns.
The piece has been dated between 3600 and 2500 BC, therefore, the find expands our knowledge of Catalonia in the Neolithic period, and is the most important in relation to the rest of the menhirs found in Baix Vallès, as well as one of the most important finds in southern Europe in recent years.
The guide made our visit interesting and enjoyable and everyone in the class group was very grateful for the initiative of our English teachers to offer us a different, dynamic and instructive English session.

El Centre de Formació de persones adultes de Mollet del Vallès, ha organitzat una visita guiada en llengua anglesa al Menhir de la nostra ciutat, el dia 4 de desembre, com activitat complementària a les classes del grup d’Anglès 1 del matí. El dia ha estat esplèndid, tot i que feia força fred.
El Menhir, situat al Jardí Literari de la Biblioteca Municipal “Jordi Solé Tura”, és un dels llocs més coneguts i visitats de Mollet del Vallès, al centre de la ciutat i dins d’un parc públic.
La visita ha estat guiada per la Marina, documentalista de la Fundació Municipal Joan Abelló, qui ens ha parlat de la troballa del Menhir l’any 2009 al Parc de les Pruneres mentre feien les obres de la seva construcció, el significat de la paraula menhir i les seves mides i pes (4,90 m x 110 cm, i 6 tones). També ha estat interessant saber que la seva composició és de roca granítica que no es troba a Mollet del Vallès ni a poblacions properes.
La peça ha estat datada entre el 3600 i el 2500 a. c., per tant, la troballa amplia els nostres coneixements sobre Catalunya en el període Neolític, i és la més important en relació amb la resta de menhirs trobats al Baix Vallès, així com una de les troballes més importants del sud d’Europa dels darrers anys.
La guia ha fet interessant i amena la nostra visita i tothom del grup classe hem estat molts agraïts per la iniciativa del professorat ;anglès de l’escola d’oferir-nos una sessió d’anglès diferent, dinàmica i instructiva.
