During the 2024-2025 school year, our center will have an English language conversation assistant. Her name is Madaline Green, a young woman from Sheffield who will provide valuable oral support to various groups until May. She will join us on October 15th.
The Conversation Assistants Program is part of a set of initiatives aimed at supporting centers that develop innovative projects for managing curricular foreign languages (English, French, German, Italian, or Chinese). Conversation assistants are ambassadors of their culture and language and are a valuable resource for Catalan centers to improve oral competence and increase students’ motivation and interest in other languages and cultures.
Their educational role provides linguistic support to the activities programmed by the classroom tutor, with a common goal: the development of students’ communicative and linguistic competences in a foreign language.
Conversation assistants are generally recent graduates or university students in their final years who have decided to come to our country to enhance their studies. They work 14 hours a week.
The Conversation Assistants Program, aimed at public centers owned by the Generalitat de Catalunya and dependent on the Department of Education, is managed by the External Educational Action Unit of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training and Sports (MEFP).
The Foreign and Origin Languages Service of the Subdirectorate General of Languages of the Department of Education is responsible for managing the Conversation Assistants Program in Catalonia and coordinates actions and agreements with the MEFP and other reference institutions.
We wish her the best of luck and success in her teaching role.
