El dijous 31 de març i el divendres 1 d’abril, l’alumnat de primer de batxillerat va escoltar el testimoni d’en Mamadou de Guinea Conakry i George de Sierra Leona sobre la seva experiència vital. Ells dos són refugiats al nostre país i formen part de l’Associació Europa sense murs/ACNUR que ens va oferir el seu taller “Escoltem a les persones refugiades”. Van ser xerrades molt interessants i, a moments, colpidores. A més, vam poder interactuar amb angloparlants en un context autèntic.

An LGTBI experience from Sierra Leone
On April 1rst, students of 1BAT had the opportunity to meet George Reginald Freeman, an activist who left his country, Sierra Leone, to fight for the rights of the LGTBI community.
First, he told us his experience, and how he feels in front of this situation.In his region, the laws are against the freedom to choose one’s sexual orientation without consequencies or discrimination. George has suffered attacks and insults because he is gay. He has been accused and imprisoned, and he has even suffered the loss of some friends, tortured for disobeying the radical laws of this African country.
He was even abandoned by his own father when he learnt that his son was gay. Later, his father, who didn’t accept it, payed three prostitutes to try to change this fact. A person’s sexual orientation should be respected anywhere in this world, because no one deserves to be treated this bad.
Then, he explained that, in Spain, there is some discrimination against him, but not for being gay, but becuase he is black.
Finally, in my opinion, I think that we all empathize a lot with George, and his whole story left us speechless. I admire him for everything that has happened to him, and I hope that the law and this discrimination can change in Sierra Leone.
