THE NUMBERS IN ENGLISH

As we are working with Cristina on ones, tens and hundreds, we decided to do it in English as well. Guim also proposes to find out the specific weight of the objects we brought, as we only know if they are light or heavy. Blai adds that he is sure that the numbers we will see on the scale will be more than two digits.

Carla asks us how we will know the exact weight with the scales we have and we realise that these give an approximate result and are also for heavier things. Guim offers to bring a digital kitchen scale the next day, so that we can know the exact weight. However, Carla reminds us that it would be interesting to know the numbers in English first, so that we can work in English when we weigh them. So we decide that next day we will work on the numbers and later Guim will bring the kitchen scale.

Carla teaches us a song to introduce the numbers in English. From this song, we discover that the tens are the same numbers from 1 to 9 but with ‘-ty’ added at the end and that the numbers from 13 to 19 are also the same numbers as from 3 to 9 but with ‘-teen’ at the end. We also notice that there are only a few numbers that are said completely differently, such as ten, eleven and twelve.

Grau comments that if you know the numbers from 1 to 9, you can say almost all the numbers.

We decided to write a reference to remember it.
