DATES IN ENGLISH

DATES IN ENGLISH

We show Carla what we are building about our lives and ask her how to write a date in English. She reminds us that we already know the months of the year and asks us how we think they are written. We decide to go back to the classroom to write down on the board all the options that come up among the classmates. Finally we see that we have two options, but we don’t agree on which one should be the correct one.

Carla shows us a video in English that talks about dates. We play the video little by little and clarify everything it explains. We also discover that there are two forms of English: British English and American English. Together with this discovery, we understand that the date in British English works more or less like in Catalan and that in American English the day and month are in a different order.

Once we know that factor, we focus on the date in British English, because Carla explains that at school we speak and learn British English.

We see that they write the number of the day with some letters behind it. This is when we know that the cardinal numbers are those we have written from 1 to 100 and that the ordinal numbers are those that mark an order: first, second, third, fourth… We decided to make a small list to remember them and we connected them with what we had already written down.

Gyda says that we could write the dates of the important moments that we have been getting on our life line chart. As there are a lot of dates, we decided to make a date of each moment as an example all together on the board and then everyone chooses a date about his or her life.
