Hola! I’m Luke! I am a third year Hispanic Studies student from Liverpool in the UK. I am currently enrolled at the University of Sheffield in England; I will be with you all in Lleida until May. I discovered the school through an Erasmus program and became familiar with the area with the help of Juan. I thought Lleida would be a great opportunity for me to begin to develop my skills both in Catalan and Spanish. I believe throughout this academic year I will be able showcase my lust for languages, while learning more about Catalan culture and Spanish culture too.
Currently, I have been living in my flat in Lleida for just under a week, but I am starting to feel comfortable with my surroundings already. I am enjoying the interactions of Catalan as it is helping me to sharpen my skill set in the language. As a beginner; the immersion of a Catalan backdrop will really help me to feel comfortable and develop my fluency in this beautiful language. My burning desire is to one day become fluent in both Spanish and Catalan to enable myself the best opportunity of becoming a translator/interpreter in the future. This is the current career path that Ihave decided to follow, I hope it will be full of newly found knowledge and filled with new cultural experiences.

La Seu Vella is an old Cathedral buit many years ago, it has also served as a military citadel. La Seu Vella is a beautiful landmark, and a walk along the Segre is an integral experience when in Lleida.

About myself? I am quite possibly the biggest football fan in the world! I am a season ticket holder at Liverpool Football Club and they are one of my greatest loves in life along with my family and modern foreign languages.

I am so crazy about football that I have already found myself a new local team here in Lleida, Lleida Esportiu! Their home stadium is just a few roads away from my flat and I am going to try attend as many games as I can! Who knows, with their new “number 1 fan” they could reach the Champions League?! Well, there is of course some work to do before that is possible, but we can always dream!
Another passion that I have is health & wellness, I love to lift weights and push my body to become stronger. I believe it is an excellent way to improve your physical and mental health! I have just joined a new Gym here in Lleida and I cannot wait to get back to my training program!
As you may have guessed, I will be mainly assisting in the Physical Education classes… I think I have made it pretty obvious that I like Sports already! Would you have guessed that I would be teaching PE?😂
Despite teaching not being my number one career path, I believe it will be an invaluable experience here at Enric Farreny to learn transferrable communication skills that I can carry with me throughout my life! I hope that I can help everyone with any English language tips (and maybe some cool Liverpool/scouse words too) and make myself completely available for the children whenever they need help! I like to keep the mood light-hearted and I hope that I can help to put a smile on everyone’s faces while I am here! We will have lots of laughs while we also learn important language and communication skills in English!
Finally, I would like to say that I am extremely grateful for this opportunity, and I cannot wait to begin! Thank you to Ramon, Juan, all the staff and students for having me! Let’s have some fun and learn some English!
