DELICIOUS AND SCARY HALLOWEEN RECIPES

Our 6th grade students came up with some unbelievable original Halloween treats. They created the recipes and prepared them at home. They brought them to school and we all had great snacks to eat in class.
Here is the list of the Halloween recipes prepared by our kids:
– Oreo spiders
– Witches’ fingers
– Kinder ghosts
– Eyeballs
Witches’ fingers is a completely vegan recipe. There are no animal-derived ingredients whatsoever.

PUMPKIN COMPETITION – HOW TO CARVE A JACK-O-LANTERN

We celebrated our annual pumpkin competition. Students voted for the most original pumpkin, the scariest pumpkin, the most beautiful pumpkin, the biggest pumpkin, the smallest pumpkin or even the ugliest pumpkin. The winners were given medals.
Kids carved amazing jack-o-lanterns and made a tutorial with the steps you should follow to make a jack-o-lantern.

“OUR BEST WITCHES” VISITING THE SCHOOL FOR HALLOWEEN

On 29th November “our best witches” came to celebrate Halloween with our students. They brought happiness, a bit of fear and a lot of fun. Besides, they gave the students mandarins and skeletons as gifts. We also played the apple bobbing game, the apple on string game and the little ones sang and danced the song “Knock, Knock, treat or trick”.
We had an amazing time!

GROW YOUR OWN JACK-O-LANTERN! HOW TO GROW PUMPKINS WITH KIDS

This year one of our students decided to plant and grow her own pumpkin for our school annual pumpkin competition.
In this picture you can see the process she followed:

If you want to have a pumpkin for next 31st October, just follow these steps:
1. Find out when to plant pumpkins in your region.
2. Choose a planting spot and prepare the soil.
3. Choose pumpkin seeds or a plant.
4. Plant your seeds in “hills” or plant the pumpkin plant.
5. Cover the planted seeds or pumpkin plant with compost.
6. Water the pumpkin plant.
7. Fertilize the pumpkin plant.
8. Control weeds and pests.
9. Check to see if the pumpkin is ready.
10. Harvest the pumpkin.
11. Cut the pumpkins’ stems.
12. Carve a jack-o-lantern.

WHAT TO DO WITH LEFTOVER HALLOWEEN PUMPKINS

Pumpkins are great for making scary lanterns at Halloween! But did you know that you can also make delicious snacks from pumpkins? At class we watched a video to find out about leftover Halloween pumpkins and our students realized that after carving the pumpkins they didn’t need to waste the inside (pulp and seeds). There’s no point in throwing away pumpkins when we can reuse them. One of my students made “cabell d’àngel” “pumpkin jam”  and some of them keep the pumpkin seeds to eat them when they are dry.

So, if you throw food away, it’ll just be a waste of money.

THE FOUR ELEMENTS OF THE EARTH PROJECT

It is believed that human activity is the main cause of Global Warming. Human actions have led to increasing quantities of greenhouse gases, as well as deforestation across parts of the globe. These actions are destroying our planet and with this project we would like to help students to know the causes and effects of environmental changes that we all have to face.

THE FOUR ELEMENTS OF THE EARTH (AIR, FIRE, LAND and WATER) are the basic essential parts of our planet.

This project is a CLIL project that integrates a part of the Catalan curriculum for Natural and Social Studies. It focuses on environmental issues. The fact that it is developed in English means that students have more time and exposure to the target language. They also develop their communicative and cognitive skills through activities which are designed for individual, pair and group work. The 4th C of CLIL, Citizenship, is strongly promoted as students learn about how to take care of the Earth through individual actions.

There are four different blocs of content. Block 1 starts with the topic of landscapes and how they are changed by natural and human actions. It continues in block 2, with a focus on the Earth’s resources and the demands made on them by humans. The third bloc aims to develop children’s awareness of the impact of human activity on Earth, including pollution and climate change. The last block encourages them to help our planet by taking personal actions at home as well as at school.

CELEBREM LA CASTANYADA A SENAN

El passat dimecres dia 30 d’octubre, la ZER va celebrar la Castanyada a Senan, un poble preciós de la nostra comarca.
Alumnes, pares, mares i mestres vam gaudir d’aquest dia màgic ple d’activitats interessants i tan esperat per tots nosaltres.
