Nice to meet you, Eilidh

As an English teacher it’s a pleasure for me to introduce you Eilidh Kerr, our new colleague. In order for you to get to know more about her, you can read this interview.

Jordi: Welcome again Eilidh!

Eilidh: Hello Jordi!

Jordi: Where do you come from?

Eilidh: I come from a small town between Glasgow and Edinburgh in Scotland.

Jordi: Did you know anything about Igualada before coming here?

Eilidh: When I was allocated the school placement I had never heard of Igualada before. After doing some research I discovered that it wasn’t very far from Barcelona so I was really pleased to be coming here to teach. I visited Barcelona last year with some girls from my university and I always wanted to come back to see more of it and this has given me the opportunity to do so.

Jordi: What do you think about the high school Badia i Margarit?

Eilidh: I really like the school, the students and teachers have been very welcoming. The new school building we have recently moved into is very modern and the students have more space which is great.

Jordi: Basically, which is your main role when you are in the classroom with the students.

Eilidh: When I am in the classroom with the students I usually teach them a grammar lesson and then we work on some exercises to practise using them. We have also looked at some holidays in the U.K. for example Halloween and Guy Fawkes night. We are starting to do more speaking exercises too so that the students can utilise having a native speaker in the classroom.

Jordi: According to you, which is the main difference between 2 nd ESO and 4ESO? Could you tell us the main differences?

Eilidh: I would say the main difference between 2nd of ESO and 4th of ESO is the level in language. As students from 4th of ESO are older and have completed the 2nd and 3rd of ESO courses they have covered more vocabulary, grammar and have seen more of the language in use. In 2nd of ESO at Badia i Margarit the students participate in a project called Global Scholars. This project allows students to learn English while talking about important subjects with peers from around the world. This year, for example, the project is based on sustainable cities and how we can reduce our waste to help the environment.

Jordi: Thank you very much Eilidh and enjoy your time here with us!

Eilidh: Thank you! I am really enjoying my time here at Badia Margarit so far and can’t wait to continue working with the students and teachers here!

For us, Eilidh is a big support. We are very grateful for this opportunity. With her, we can learn new things about her culture and improve our knowledge of English. The classes with her are very dynamic; at first, we were shier with her and we didn’t participate too much but now, we get more involved in her classes. She helps us to improve our pronunciation and is fantastic!

Eilidh, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
