This school year, 10 students from 2nd year ESO, have experienced what an Erasmus project is. This time, the project was called “A Cry from the Ocean” and it was done with students from Loon-Plage in the north-west of France.
The project had 2 parts. The first part consisted of virtual activities done on the educational platform e-Twinning. Our students interacted with the French students through several activities. These activities gave them the opportunity to get to know each other. There was the collaboration of 1st ESO students to do riddles on marine creatures and a comic strip on pollution of oceans. These activities were led by the art teacher Mireia Talens.
The second part of the project consisted of the mobilities. First, the Catalan group went to Loon-Plage with teachers Cristina Macaya and Esther Piqué from the 31st to the 4th April. Our students were accommodated in the houses of the different French families. Later, from the 12th to 16th May, the French group came to Tarragona. They were accommodated in a hotel in Salou. It was a big group and it was difficult to try to find 21 Catalan families to accommodate them all, so French teachers decided to stay in a hotel. Although they were here for a week, they spent 3 days with our 2nd ESO students, but they were very intense.
On Tuesday 13th in the morning, our 10 students and the French group went to visit the Devil’s Bridge. We invited Sergi Quiñonero, an artist that makes works of art out of waste. We collected rubbish on our way to the Devil’s Bridge. Once there, Mr. Quiñonero gave instructions on his idea of a work of art representing worry about the pollution of the seas and all the students collaborated to do this work of art, which is entitled The Landscape is changing, the landscape is crying.
This action is also part of the European project “Let’s Clean Up Europe”, a project promoted by the Science department, and the Town Hall. The main goal of it is to keep our natural spaces, such as forests and beaches, clean.
In the afternoon, we visited the Rambla Nova, the Mediterranean Balcony and the Font Square (Plaça de la Font). We also visited the Town Hall, where the monument of Jaume I is displayed. Later, we saw the rehearsal of human castles at Sant Pere i San Pau castle association.
The next day, Wednesday 14th, was dedicated to water activities. In the morning, our students did water activities at Nàutic Club (Padel Surf, Knee Padel, and Kayak). In the afternoon, we visited the Harbour Market (La Llotja). Inside, there was the Blue Observatory, where students could see and learn about the different fish at the Mediterranean Sea. Later, we took a ride on a boat along the harbour and we listened to the different explanations on it done by a guide.
On Thursday 15th, we all visited the Roman Tarraco. We had the opportunity to enjoy the explanations on the Roman Walls, the Circus and the Amphitheatre. Then, we went to our High School Sant Pere i Sant Pau, and the French group and our students received their Certificates of Participation. They all felt very proud of having participated in this project.
Finally, in the afternoon, we all did a cultural visit at Pere Mata Modernist Centre in Reus, and we walked along the central streets. We could experience the nice environment of the heart of Reus, with their combination of modernist and contemporary buildings and people going shopping.
