The children had shared and explained the graffiti and mural photos they had brought. One graffiti piece had a name: 1UP. After talking about it, we had thought that it would be a good idea to have a classroom name too, like the graffiti group who had made the artwork.
We had thought of many ideas, such as 11GB, 11down, 11up, 11superclass, 11funnyclass, Super Class, the best, and more. Then we had voted, and the most popular name had been 11up, because there are 11 children in the class. After choosing the name, we made a graffiti design to represent it.
After this, the children chose one small detail from each of their graffiti designs. Each child had selected a part that they felt represented their style or their idea the best. Then we had photocopied all these details, and together we created a new collective artwork by arranging the copies into one big composition.
It had been a fun and creative way to bring everyone’s ideas together and make a shared piece that represented the whole class.
