Carla asks us what the map in the middle of the classroom represents. We explain that it is our map of emotions and she asks us what emotions we know in English. As we tell her which emotions we remember, she looks for a picture showing several of them. We go one by one identifying their meaning.
Valentina comments that the picture is missing some emotions and that she wants to know how to say other emotions she has in mind. So we all write down on the board the emotions that we miss and that we want to know how to say in English. We put together the ideas that we have asked at home and we look up in the dictionary those emotions that nobody knows the translation.
In order to have all the emotions at hand, we decided to write them down on cards and then stick them on the map. We decided we are going to create a referent for each emotion to remember its meaning: songs, drawings, photographs of specific moments, stories, etc. We also invent a game to practice the vocabulary.
