On 3rd March our 5th & 6th graders from Barberà de la Conca had the honour to sit in theTOWN HALLmain room to interviewMAYOR MARC ROVIRAof Barberà de la Conca.
Pupils had the opportunity to ask him some questions in order to get to know him better, both personally and professionally.
Afterwards, they presented some proposals in order to improve their town services and to discuss some of the school necessities and see what he could do to sort them out.
Finally, the mayor asked them a significant question which was: if they had the opportunity to be the mayor of Barberà, what would they do for the town.
The variety of answers were amazing and Mayor agreed to take some of their suggestions into consideration.
On behalf of “LA ZER CONCA” we would like to thank Mayor Marc very much for this opportunity to interview him.
Christmas is a very important celebration all over the world, bringing families and friends together.
Last Christmas, we had the opportunity to participate in a wonderful Etwinning Project with two schools, one in Portugal and the other in Poland.
We exchanged Christmas cards that we made out of some recycled materials which students found in their homes and at school.
Our students wrote a Christmas message in English and Catalan and our pen pals did the same but in Portuguese and in Polish.
Furthermore, as the Christmas cards were made from recycled materials, hopefully this made the students more aware of the importance of recycling and that something wonderful can be made out of trash.
As teachers, we wanted to emphasize that no action is too small when it comes to the importance of taking care of our planet.
We would like to thank the students in Portugal and Poland, and most of all, Lucia, the teacher in Portugal and Edyta and Miroslawa the teachers in Poland.
It was an amazing experience because we shared Christmas greetings with people who live so far away from us and in the process learned a little bit more about their cultures and traditions. Furthermore, now we know exactly where Portugal and Poland are!!!
We were also awarded “THE ETWINNING LABEL CERTIFICATE” and we are so happy about that.
Below you can see some photographs of the project in progress and the Christmas cards we sent and the ones we received.
Do you help your parents to do the household chores? I asked my students.
They told me which household chores they usually do to help their parents. Not a lot! So we realized that we could do more to help them.
In order to contribute more at home, they made a list of other chores they could do and they wrote up a contract to commit themselves.

On the 7th October, our students from la ZER went to the theatre in L’Espluga de Francolí to see the amazing play “ALADDIN” in English. Not only did they enjoy the play but they also practised their English skills.
We also walked along part of the river Francolí to observe the impact the flood had on the environment and the negative effects.
After that, at the Museum of Rural Life, students participated in a workshop: “Could we live without plastic?” where they understood the negative impact of this material on our planet.
Our students really enjoyed doing these extraordinary activities and taking an active part in all of them.

Every year we invite parents to “La Castanyada” celebration and this year was no exception so our 5th & 6th grade students designed the invitations.
They followed the steps in order to design the invitation and after that, they were given a checklist to ensure that they included all the information required in an invitation.
Have a look at the awesome invitations created by the students:
