Tuesday 14th November. Some students of English have taken part in an interesting activity in which Solsona’s local tradition and the English language have joined together. Derek, our tour guide, has accompanied us to the Cathedral and El Quarto dels Gegants.
First, we have stopped at the Cathedral and we have just learnt lots of things about Mare de Déu del Claustre. This sculpture is Romanesque and it is made of local stone. We have compared it to other images from that time and Mare de Déu del Claustre is really different. Actually, it is one of the finest of its time. We have appreciated the beauty and details carved in it and we have known its history.
Then, in El Quarto dels Gegants we have contemplated the splendour of the giants and the other representative figures of local tradition, especially the dragon. Most of us already knew some facts about them. But it has been really interesting to discover that every giant fully defines Solsona’s tradition and local customs: their crests, the blue blood in the veins of their hands, their crowns…
Both have been very interesting visits and they have showed us a great time!
