Everyone knows that Valentine’s Day is the day of love, which everyone gives or receives loving messages, letters, greeting cards, gifts such as chocolates or flowers to their friends or to someone who is special to them. It’s an annual holiday that takes place in February 14 across the United States, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and in other places around the world. One of the earliest popular symbols of the day is Cupid, the Roman God of love, who is represented by the image of a young cherub with bow and arrow.

You might be thinking why this day is important, who brought up this idea or where does the origin come from. Actually, the story is not so clear. According to some books, there were at least two different saints named Valentine, all of whom were martyred. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. He was thrown into prison for his teachings and refusing to worship the Roman God, and on February 14 he was beheaded. It’s believed that during his confinement he fell in love with a young girl, the jailer’s daughter, after he supposedly cured of her blindness. Before his death, he sent the first “valentine” to her and he signed “From your Valentine,” an expression that is still in use today. The other one suggests that Valentine was an Italian bishop who secretly married couples against the law of the Roman emperor and he was beheaded as well. As you can see they are many stories but who knows, one of them might be true.
Valentine’s Day is an important day for those who have a crush on someone or those who want to tell to the person who they think is special how much they love them and why they’re so important to them. But here comes the part for the ‘single-ones’. I know how you all feel about this day, staying at home doing nothing, seeing your friends with their lover, buying stuff for them, etc. And you will be thinking why don’t you have someone like that. You will be trying ways to do what they are doing and fail when your special person rejects you. I am also single and I think that we should not force that because it won’t work, it needs patience. You might not expect it but maybe someone who likes you will want to know you when it’s not Valentine’s day, you never know. What you can do is just imagine this day being a normal day, and just live your life like you always do. So, Happy Valentine’s Day for the couples and Happy Single-Valentine’s Day for the singles!!
